Gun slinging priest

Phillip Miles is a pastor from South Carolina, but hes not sitting out under a palm tree, drinking an Iced tea. Miles is sitting in a cold russian jail cell, because he was accused of smuggling rifles rounds into Russia. He claims that he had bought rounds of ammunition for a friend who likes to hunt and recently purchased a winchseter rifle. He was arrested after he was already in Russia and was trying to board another flight. He was tried in a russian court room where the judge found him guilty and sentenced him to 3 years and two monthes after already countering the time he spent in jail already. People think that the sentencing was to harsh, but honestly if he was in America he probably would get a similar sentence. If its illegal here what makes you think that it wouldnt be illegal in another similar democracy. And I think it would be even more illegal in a place like Russia where the government is stricter in the first place. Was the sentence a little harsh, yeah probably, but everyone knows the saying “if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime”. His lawyer will file an appeal within the next ten days but whats to say that the appeal will even be passed. The russian court system is a lot different from the US court system. Russians don’t like foreigners committing crimes in their nation, and there’s a strong sense of russian nationalism, which equals jail time for Miles.
